Esme has enjoyed training with the Cheshire coaches and was delighted to be selected by u14 manager Graham McCormack for the team after recovering from a recent health problem.
Esme outlined her progress in golf: “I am 14 and attend West Kirby Grammar School
“I started playing golf at the driving range with my dad when I was five. After a while I started lessons at Vicars Cross and never looked back.
“I joined the Cheshire Girls set up when I was nine and Wallasey Golf Club soon after where I got my handicap.
“Among my golfing highlights have been playing at Woodhall Spa in the England Women's Medal Final where I came 14th, when I was 12. I also won most improved player at Wallasey for 2022.
“2023 was a tough year for me. I had spinal fusion in January of that year for scoliosis.
â€The journey back to golf has been hard with many months out the game and then trying to regain my performance.
“With hard work and perseverance, I've come back stronger and more determined than before and this has shown in my results.
“I would like to give a big shout to my coaches Graeme Roberts at Eaton and Tony Davis at Foregolf as well as the Cheshire coaches. “Without them, I could never have come this far. “Thank you to my Dad, too, even though we bicker at times! Also my mum for taxi services.
“This season I want to play more courses, in more competitions and have my handicap include different courses.
“In the longer term, I would love to gain a golf scholarship or something similar and, after that, who knows! Some travel would be nice.
“My golfing idol is Nelly Korda despite being American.. just awesome and she wants to grow the game for girls.
“I want to inspire more girls and women to try golf as it's such a great sport
“I was contacted by Graham who looks after the U14 Cheshire squad. He was keen to encourage girls into the U14 squad. I was a little nervous playing amongst the boys but it's been great and a great experience playing for them at Heswall.â€
